Meet Black Mkandawire from Ntchenachena in Rumphi who has demonstrated that youth can make a difference in life. His inspiring journey started with tomato production. At the age of 23, the young man has made a bold investment of K1 Million (One Million Kwacha) and is now set to reap a profit of K5 Million (Five Million Kwacha). Black’s story goes beyond his achievement. It poses a challenge to young men and women in this country. Through his enterprise, he is able to employ his fellow youth and even older women involved in farm-related activities.
Black shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I am grateful for the support I received from Khwakhwazi Irrigation Scheme rehabilitated through the TRANSFORM project. It has been a game-changer for me and my community.”
With proceeds from his farm, Black plans to invest back into irrigation farming and diversify his income. He excitedly said: “I want to buy 3 bags of NPK and 2 bags of UREA so that I can make Mbeya manure. Things are now very expensive.” Find Your Feet trained him on different types of manure and their importance in soil improvement and increasing crop yield.
“Now that climate change is affecting my farming a lot, I also plan to use part of my profit from tomato production to buy more goats and 3 cattle to diversify my income sources”. Black added.
Black’s inspiring journey showcases the potential of youth entrepreneurship and the positive impact of agricultural initiatives in rural communities. Join us in celebrating his incredible achievements!
